.au Domains Available For Sale From March 2022

Matt Jackson 2 March, 2022

A new namespace is coming for all Australians, allowing registration of domain names with a .au extension (e.g. yourdomain.au).

With the addition of the ‘.au’, Australians will have the opportunity to gain access to a new world of digital possibilities through shorter and unique Australian online addresses.

The auDA launched a new campaign recently to encourage Australians to consider the benefits that the .au domain can have on their business’s online presence.

“We are thrilled to launch our .au direct campaign and raise awareness of Australia’s newest namespace.

Whether you are looking to register a new domain name or are simply sending or receiving emails or using the web, we want everyone to know that .au direct is Australia’s newest digital address.

.au direct will provide greater choice of shorter, simpler and uniquely Australian domain names and email addresses for Australian individuals, businesses and organisations as they build their digital presence.”

auDA CEO Rosemary Sinclair AM

What are the benefits of owning a .au domain?

Australians will now have access to a wider choice of available names allowing users to register shorter, sharper and more memorable direct domains.

Am I eligible for a .au domain?

Any business, association and individual with a local connection to Australia is eligible to register a .au direct name.

How can I secure my .au domain?

Registrants that already hold an existing .au domain name (e.g. yourdomain.com.au) will have first opportunity to claim and register the exact match in the new namespace (e.g. yourdomain.au). This is completed through the Priority Allocation Process

The auDA has confirmed that all exact matches prior to the launch of the new namespace will be reserved during a six-month Priority Allocation Period beginning in March 2022.

If more than one eligible registrant applies to the same .au name, the name will be only then allocated according to:

  • Creation date of the existing domain name
  • The Priority cut-off date of 4 February 2018
