What’s involved in migrating?

Migrating from Universal Analytics (UA) to Google Analytics 4 (GA4) involves several steps. Here’s a summary of what’s involved:

  1. Create a new property in your Google Analytics account specifically for GA4.
  2. Gain access to the website backend or cPanel.
  3. Install the GA4 tracking code in the head section of the site’s HTML code or Google Tag Manager.
  4. Replace the existing UA tracking code with the new GA4 tracking code.
  5. Validate and test: Test the GA4 implementation to verify that data is being collected correctly and accurately
  6. Troubleshoot any issues that arise in the migration.

GA4 benefits: Why migrate now?

What’s Google Analytics 4?

Google Analytics 4 is a major update and is the next generation of Google Analytics. It’s an entirely new analytics property that brings together everything that worked well in Universal Analytics with brand new features designed to take advantage of the opportunities presented by big data and machine learning.

What’s the difference between GA4 and UA?

The biggest difference is that GA4 has been built on a completely new architecture. UA was built around page views, hits and sessions, whereas GA4 is built around ‘events’. Events can be anything from page views to clicks, form submissions, and even custom events you define yourself.

What are the important implications?

This change in architecture means that GA4 can collect much more data than UA, which in turn means that GA4 can give you more insights into how visitors use your site and what actions they take. The flexibility of GA4’s custom settings means you track just about anything in order to understand user behaviour better.
